Grounded In Your Identity
“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.
Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part.”
1 Corinthians 12:12, 14 NLT
There is so much importance highlighted in unity in the church. We know it, we talk about it a lot if churches, but since we talk about it so much, why are we failing to achieve it. I talked recently about how pride seems to get in the way of unity so often, we get caught up in ourselves. This can be true but there is another side to the coin…
CRISIS OF IDENTITY!
Unity is harmed when we don’t know who we are. If you don’t know who you are as an individual, if you don’t know what God has called you , what He has said about you, how can you be aligned as a body.
Look at your body, would you choose to cut off any part of your body? Is there i any part of your body, that you don’t see or recognise it’s value. Just as it is in the body of Christ, every member and every part of the body has his/her value. The Questions is do you know your worth?
“Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?”
1 Corinthians 12:14-17 NLT
We need to learn and be grounded in who we are and the role we have to play. So that when we come together as one body, we are not comparing ourselves to one another and undervaluing our role in Kingdom work. This only comes by having a personal and intimate relationship with God.
It is important for the body of Christ to have an ear, or how would the body receive direction and hear the Word. We should never underestimate the value of any part of the body. Performing the role God created you for is how the entire body functions in unison.
“But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.””
1 Corinthians 12:18-21 NLT
Every part of the body, needs the other parts,. No part of the body can function well on its own. Once you know your role and how to perform you can be effective as a part of the body. If the eye receives vision it can not leap out from the body and walk, it see’s the vision and the legs run with it. The legs too can not walk without guidance and direction.
“In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity.”
1 Corinthians 12:22-24 NLT
It may seem like you are out of sight, that your role isn’t honoured or valued. Like others are of more importance than you. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. God honours what is done in the secret place.
